About ASD
The heart of the blueprint for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals lies towards developing a healthier and happier place by the year 2030. The Academia for Sustainable Development believes in स्वस्मै स्वल्पं समाजाय सर्वस्वं, which is a Shloka taken from holy book Bhagawad Gita which implies to do a little for yourself and everything for others. This belief strengthens the pathway from theory of change to theory of action towards people, planet and prosperity.
One of the crucial roles of the organization involves developing pathways to achieve the SDGs, following-up the tasks and finally filling up the gaps. The academia influences policy decisions through active participation keeping aligned with the sustainable development goals across all levels. Such a participation is ensured through developing informed research material, creating awareness and analysis of the policies in action.
The ASD is an organization dedicated to the furtherance of India’s journey towards achieving a developmental model which is sustainable for the generations to come by taking up various activities in the form of awareness, advocacy and research especially by using the burgeoning forces of youth in the country. We are a focused institution working on bringing both top-down and grassroot level change on the road to a sustainable India through a range of initiatives impacting the policy decisions taken at the highest level to improving the quality of sustainable life at the most rural areas. With the help of the future leaders i.e., the students, the plan on reaching the furthermost corners of society and putting them on a sustainable path looks more and more reachable.
The simple understanding of sustainability is to regulate the use of resources that are available to us in order to make an inclusive and comfortable ecosystem for the future generations. The idea of sustainable development tells us that all growth that happens should be sustainable in nature and shouldn’t come at the cost of someone else. The concept is not as foreign as it sounds. The ASD believes that and inclusive change covering the majority of the population of the country that is living in the rural areas and promoting sustainability from the bottom most rung would make the highest contribution into building a sustainable future.
Sustainability is not just related to the environment. Though climate concerns are of deep importance, we cover a lot more than that. From the most basic of things like clean water and no hunger to much more developed goals in the form of building a non-discriminatory and equal opportunities and equitable economic growth. ASD is interested in the creation of a just world where all these goals have been achieved and is committed to working towards it in the best way possible.
Through deep advocacy and awareness programme, ASD aims to remove one of the biggest obstacle India faces in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) i.e., Knowledge. By using the most powerful weapon, the students, we wish to impart the value and impact of the SDGs to everyone, especially the rural population and spearhead the change towards a sustainable ecosystem.
